India’s leading food delivery aggregator company Zomato, in collaboration with Startup India, has unveiled a unique initiative to prevent plastic waste – the Plastic-Free Orders Packathon on 2 February 2024. This newly launched effort is designed to transform the food delivery industry in India by tackling the pressing issue of plastic waste generation through innovative sustainable solutions.
The Zomato Plastic-Free Orders Packathon is a platform that offers startups the opportunity to showcase their innovative sustainable packaging alternatives. To be eligible, startups must hold DPIIT recognition and submit their innovation before the deadline set for February 29th.
Winners of the Plastic-Free Orders Packathon will not only receive lucrative prizes of INR3-10 Lakhs but will also have the chance to present their solutions to Zomato’s restaurant partners, enhancing collaboration and industry visibility.
Anjali Ravi Kumar, Zomato’s Chief Sustainability Officer, reiterated the company’s commitment to minimizing the environmental impact of food delivery services, while Astha Grover, Vice President of Startup India, praised the initiative as a collaborative effort guiding Indian enterprises and citizens toward sustainable practices.
In a recent announcement of their 2030 sustainability goals, Zomato disclosed their ambitious sustainability targets, including the goal of achieving 100% plastic-neutral food delivery orders through voluntary recycling by 2025. These objectives underscore Zomato’s unwavering dedication to environmental responsibility and sustainability.
